Availability & Leasing
The Bulkley offers studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom apartments in Downtown Cleveland's Playhouse Square District. Studios range from 366 to 536 square feet, one-bedroom layouts run from 561 to 921 square feet, and two-bedroom homes with two full bathrooms range from 930 to 1,129 square feet. Every residence is fully renovated and includes an in-unit washer and dryer, stainless-steel energy-efficient appliances, black pearl granite countertops, a walk-in closet with built-in shelving, central heating and air conditioning, and an Ecobee smart thermostat. Oversized windows fill each home with natural light and frame views of the Playhouse Square District and the downtown skyline. Availability moves quickly, so visit the Floor Plans page to see which homes are open right now.
Setting up a visit takes just a few minutes. Call the leasing team at (216) 480-8181 or submit a request through the Contact page, and a team member will arrange a time that fits your schedule. The leasing office is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with Saturday tours available by appointment only. Because The Bulkley sits directly on Euclid Avenue in the heart of Playhouse Square, many prospective residents pair their tour with a walk through the surrounding theater district.
Once you choose your preferred apartment home at The Bulkley, you'll complete the online application, submit the application fee and holding deposit, and provide any required documentation. Applications are reviewed for income, credit, rental history, and public criminal records. If an applicant does not meet eligibility requirements, the holding deposit will be refunded. You can begin the entire process through the Apply Now link on our website.
Most applications are processed within 1 to 3 business days once all required documents have been received. Timing depends on verification needs, whether an applicant's background screening is in-state or out-of-state, and how quickly supporting information is submitted. The leasing team reaches out as soon as a decision is reached so you can lock in your move-in date.
The Bulkley offers lease terms ranging from 6 to 16 months. Several lease lengths are available so you can align your commitment with your plans, whether that means a shorter stay in Playhouse Square or settling in for the long term. Contact the leasing office or submit an inquiry online for current lease term options.
Yes. If your preferred apartment layout is not currently available, you can join the priority waitlist by submitting an online application, a $60 application fee per person, and a $200 priority reservation deposit. Studio layouts tend to lease quickly at The Bulkley, so the waitlist is a practical way to hold your place for the floor plan you actually want. The leasing team will contact you when a matching home becomes available.
Architecture and address are what set our community apart. The Bulkley is a 1921 Playhouse Square landmark on Euclid Avenue, and our residences preserve original architectural accents while delivering fully renovated kitchens, in-unit laundry, smart thermostats, and walk-in showers with glass doors. Very few apartments in downtown Cleveland put you within a two-minute walk of the KeyBank State Theatre, Connor Palace, and the Hanna Theatre while also offering monthly garage parking, a 24-hour fitness center, a co-working space, and a HealthLine station at the front door. For renters comparing apartments near Playhouse Square, The Bulkley's combination of historic character, current finishes, and genuine walkability is difficult to match.
Pricing & Fees
Rent varies by floor plan, lease term, and current availability. Because rates shift as homes are leased, the Floor Plans page carries the most accurate figures for the layout you have in mind. You can also reach the leasing office at (216) 480-8181 for up-to-date pricing and availability.
Utilities are not included in the monthly rent at The Bulkley. Residents are responsible for electric, water, and sewer. High-speed internet access and cable-ready connections are already built into every apartment, and the leasing team will walk you through utility setup details before move-in.
Security deposit amounts range from $500 to one month's rent based on credit history and screening results. Your exact figure is determined once your application has been reviewed and approved. Reach out to the leasing office for deposit requirements specific to your application.
A $60 non-refundable application fee is required per person to process your application. A $200 holding fee will also be held until your application is approved. Once approved, the holding fee will be applied to your move-in costs. Should an applicant not meet the eligibility requirements, the holding fee will be refunded. Additional fees and deposits can vary based on credit screening results. For more information, please contact our sales team directly by phone or through the Contact Us page of our website.
Yes, renters insurance is required for all residents at The Bulkley with a minimum liability coverage of $100,000. A renters insurance program is offered through the community if you'd prefer a straightforward enrollment option rather than sourcing a policy on your own. Contact the leasing office for policy requirements and available options.
Yes. The Bulkley participates in a Preferred Employer Program that offers savings to employees of participating organizations, and a Stars & Stripes Military Rewards Program is available to military members and veterans. Residents also receive local discounts at participating Playhouse Square and downtown Cleveland businesses. Ask the leasing team whether your employer qualifies.
Pet Policies
The Bulkley welcomes cats with a limit of two per apartment. If you have any questions, contact the leasing office at (216) 480-8181 to confirm what the current pet policy allows before you submit your application.
A $250 pet deposit applies, along with $25 per month in pet rent. These amounts are collected in addition to your standard security deposit and monthly rent. The leasing team can confirm the full breakdown of pet-related costs at the time you apply.
Downtown Cleveland puts several green spaces within easy reach. The Bulkley is located next to the Cleveland State University campus and gives residents access to their walking areas. Perk Plaza at Chester Commons is roughly a seven-minute walk northwest and offers shaded walkways and open lawn space. Public Square anchors the downtown core about fifteen minutes west on foot and hosts seasonal programming throughout the year. All of which make comfortable destinations for a daily walk without leaving the neighborhood.
Apartment Features
Kitchens at The Bulkley are fully renovated with white modern soft-close cabinetry, black pearl granite countertops, and a taupe designer tile backsplash. Stainless-steel energy-efficient appliances, a double basin sink, and a black gooseneck faucet with a pull-down sprayer handle the daily tasks, while brushed nickel hardware ties the finishes together. Every home includes an eat-in kitchen with a breakfast bar, and select homes include a central kitchen island for additional prep and dining space.
Bathrooms feature ceramic tile flooring, an oversized mirror, and brushed nickel fixtures throughout. Select homes include a walk-in shower with a glass door, double vanity sinks, and a rain showerhead, while other layouts offer a tub and shower combination. Ask the leasing team which bathroom configuration comes with the specific floor plan you're considering.
Every apartment at The Bulkley includes an in-unit washer and dryer, so laundry never means leaving your home or hunting for quarters. Central air conditioning and heating keep your space comfortable through Cleveland's full range of seasons, and an Ecobee smart thermostat lets you adjust the temperature from your phone. High-speed internet access and cable-ready connections are already in place, paired with modern black pendant and recessed lighting and a ceiling fan in the bedrooms.
Storage was carefully designed into these layouts rather than added as an afterthought. Bedrooms include a walk-in closet with built-in shelving, which keeps clothing and everyday items organized without extra furniture. Each home also opens into an entry foyer with a coat closet, a practical detail during Cleveland winters. Residents with bicycles have access to indoor bike storage within the building.
Oversized windows with roller shades are a signature of these homes, drawing in daylight and framing views of the Playhouse Square District and downtown Cleveland. Original architectural accents appear throughout the building, a reflection of its 1921 construction, and they complement the contemporary finishes rather than competing with them. Accessibility features are available in select homes, so let the leasing team know if that factors into your search.
Apartments at The Bulkley are offered unfurnished, which gives you full control over how the space comes together. If a furnished home better suits your individual plans, the leasing team can connect you with third-party furnishing providers serving downtown Cleveland.
Community Amenities
Yes. The Bulkley features a 24-hour fitness center, so workouts fit into your schedule. Around-the-clock access is particularly useful for residents working nontraditional hours at nearby hospitals, theaters, or downtown offices.
A dedicated co-working space gives residents a place to focus outside their apartment, and Wi-Fi access runs throughout the common areas so you can move between spots without losing your connection. The community clubroom and attached game room provide a more relaxed setting for gatherings, and planned social activities give residents an additional reason to use them. Together, these spaces cover both heads-down work time and genuine downtime.
Garage parking is available to residents at the Lumen Public Garage for $175 per month, a partially enclosed garage just east of the building at 1965 East 17th Street, roughly a four-minute walk. Indoor bike storage is also provided for residents who commute by bike or ride recreationally along Euclid Avenue and the surrounding downtown streets. Contact the leasing office to arrange your parking before move-in.
A dedicated community package room holds deliveries until you're ready to collect them, so boxes aren't left in hallways or at the building entrance. Elevator access serves the residential floors, making pickup straightforward no matter where your apartment is located in the building.
The Bulkley is a controlled access building, meaning entry points require resident credentials. Elevator access is available throughout the residential floors.
A professional management team handles day-to-day community operations on site, and 24-hour emergency maintenance service covers urgent issues at any hour. An online resident portal lets you pay rent, submit maintenance requests, and manage your account without a trip to the office. Residents also receive local discounts at participating Playhouse Square and downtown Cleveland businesses, plus access to planned social activities throughout the year.

The building is a contributing property within the Playhouse Square historic district, added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. The residences were converted from original office space, and architectural accents from the building's earliest years were preserved throughout.
